About My Career Path in Health & Wellness

After receiving my Masters Degree in Health Communication from Tufts University School of Medicine and Emerson College (joint program) in 1999, I worked for Fitcorp, a Corporate Wellness business, providing worksite wellness programs to companies in Boston.  I then worked at a small healthcare video production company as a Marketing Manager, followed by several years at Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA as a Health Communications Project Manager.  In 2014, after taking a break in my career to stay home while the kids were little, I became certified as a Health and Wellness Coach through the Wellcoaches School in Wellesley, MA.  Since then I have privately coached many clients, as well as held a part-time job at Release Well-Being Center as the Manager of Wellness Education and Coaching and at Synergy Health & Wellness as a Health and Wellness Coach.  In addition to the courses I have taken to maintain my certification as a coach, I have also completed the 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course at the University of Massachusetts Center for Mindfulness.  I have also recently become certified as a Precision Nutrition Level 1 coach.

About My Work as a Coach

I spend much of my time working with women who have either neglected their self-care or are struggling to reach their health and wellness goals. I have found that many people are overwhelmed with too much information from multiple sources, which leaves them confused and unsure of how to proceed with their wellness. By focusing on self-discovery and behavior modification, my clients have been successful in getting on the right path towards their ultimate wellness. I do not believe in “quick fixes” and my ultimate goal for my clients is long-term, sustainable and balanced wellness for life.

I will work closely with you to help you discover your strengths and weaknesses and how to apply those to your future success.  I will then help you to create a Wellness Vision and goals to reach this vision.

You will receive personal, individualized attention from me to reach these goals, as I will be there with you every step of the way during your wellness journey.  I will be your mentor, partner and support system and will encourage you to take your health and happiness into your own hands.  I am confident that I can help to make a difference in your life if you are struggling to find a way to achieve balance and to overcome any difficulties you may have with your overall wellness.

About My Life

I am a Mom to 3 active kids (12, 14, 15) and a wife to a hard-working, supportive husband.  I enjoy running, yoga, skiing, hiking, watching movies, traveling with my family, watching the kids participate in sports and other activities and spending time with friends and family.

I have always considered myself a health and wellness enthusiast, but I really came to discover the importance of self-care when I was home full time with the 3 kids (who at the time were 1, 3 and 4 years old).  I was spending ALL of my time taking care of the kids, paying no attention to myself.  My thought process was, I have no choice.  I am their Mom and I am going to do everything I can to take the best care of them.  Little did I realize then that I DID have a choice and that by neglecting my own care, I was neglecting them, as my health and wellness were deteriorating.  I did not eat well, I wasn't exercising or taking any time for myself.  I was dealing with high levels of anxiety and also with some physical health issues, including vertigo and digestive issues.

I finally realized that I could not keep up with that lifestyle, physically or emotionally, and decided, with the help and guidance of family and friends, to hire a babysitter and do something for myself.  Every Monday night, the sitter would come over and I would head out to a yoga class. The first time I went, it was horrible, as the only thing I could feel was guilt!  I chose, however, to continue to go to this class and came to realize that the kids were fine and I was really getting so much out of it.  Once I overcame the guilt, I was more receptive to the notion of paying attention to myself and how much better I could take care of the kids when I was of strong mind and body.

Fast forward 10 years and I have come a long way in terms of my own health and wellness.  It is my hope that I can help others on their own health and wellness journey and lead them to a place where they feel good about themselves...body, mind and spirit.
